FAQ's

How is Water Allocated?

The state Governments allocate water within each water catchment, depending on how much water is available in the river or groundwater system. These allocations are calculated separately for each catchment.

Why Are There Different Amounts Allocated to Different Regions?

Allocations within a catchment can significantly vary over time depending on weather conditions within the catchment. This means that an entitlement holder can receive different amounts each year. Depending on rainfall and dam storage levels, these allocations can increase throughout the year. However, your water allocation can never decrease throughout the year.

When are Changes in Allocation Announced?

In many cases, allocations announcements are made by the relevant State authorities every 2 weeks, unless stated otherwise, until 100% allocations for that water system are announced. However, it is possible that allocations can exceed 100%.

How much is a megalitre of water worth?

A megalitre of water is worth different values, depending on the region of your water entitlement. You can find the latest trading data by logging into our live market here or calling us on 1800 890 285.
